SDG #1: Eradicate all forms of Poverty Everywhere
24 Days of the Sustainable Development Goals
SDG #1: End Poverty in All its Forms Everywhere.
Overview
Further than the eradication of extreme poverty, our first sustainable development goal calls for the drastic reduction (by more than half) of all forms and dimensions of poverty, as it is measured and experienced differently in different contexts.
In addition, we are charged with the implementation of social protection measures and robust policy frameworks, all to secure rights to resources, access to services, and resilience in the face of disaster for all poor and vulnerable people.
Status Update
For the first time in a generation, the rate of extreme poverty is on the rise.
The ongoing pandemic has compounded the effects of climate change and political conflict, increasing the number of impoverished people by approximately 120 million in the last year and a half alone. And 8 out 10 new impoverished people are in middle-income countries and territories. For the first time since the 1980’s, extreme poverty is on the rise globally.
